The Retail Expense Performance Manager supports all aspects of non-payroll expense for retail stores, including planning, budgeting, forecasting and reporting. This role reports to the Director of Retail Expense & Profitability and routinely collaborates with various cross functional leaders to support company strategy and drive profitability improvement.   
 

Responsibilities & Duties

  • Provides oversight and leadership in managing non-payroll expense that aligns with company strategy for Neiman Marcus and Last Call stores.
  • Provide leadership, direction and guidance to direct reports and cross functional business partners in forecasting, planning, budgeting and reporting all retail non-payroll expense
  • Initiates and leads cross functional partners on establishing, refining, and maintaining retail expense budgets / forecasts (capital and operating expenses). Ensures that budgeting and planning process evolves and aligns with business initiatives.
  • Collaborates with cross functional partners and store leaders to identify and execute expense related initiatives and practices that drive profit improvement
  • Leads direct and indirect reports in the following
    • analyzing data to understand profitability impact and identify improvement opportunities
    • analyzing data to provide recommendation on initiatives / actions to achieve goals and support continuous profit improvement
    • delivering accurate, timely, informative and actionable reporting   
  • Provide ongoing education of store leaders and key business partners through formal and informal presentation on expense and profit improvement strategy and initiatives
  • Guides and directs direct and indirect reporting on extracting meaningful data and presenting information in a manner that support decision making and proactive / reactive response
  • Lead and manage key store expense vendor relationships (ex: housekeeping, supplies)
  • Delivers formal and informal presentation / communication of data and analysis to a variety of audiences for that support decisioning and action
  • Continually evaluates trends or patterns using data and key performance indicators to identify issues and recommends action plans as necessary
  • Stays current on expense management industry trends and determines relevant application to the Neiman Marcus labor management models
  • Partner closely with finance, spend management, LP, facilities, supply chain, credit services, store ops  
  • 4-6  years of store operations experience
  • 2+ years of stores / field leadership experience preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting. MBA or CPA preferred
  • Experience in Essbase/Oracle preferred
  • History of driving results and performance through influence
  • Strong ability to successfully interface with all levels and areas of the organization, establish close working relationships, and build consensus and support for improvement opportunities
  • Adept at identifying operational improvement opportunities and working with others to generate and implement solutions
  • Strong ability to influence without authority and drive change across multiple functions in a dynamic environment
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills; strong facilitation, interpersonal, and teamwork skills are required
  • Proven ability to manage multiple assignments at once and shift work based on business needs
  • Ability to quickly learn the high-level flow of applications and processes
  • Passion and ability to work in a retail store environment on a frequent basis
  • Strong in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
