This is an exciting opportunity to be part of the Data & Analytics Delivery Organization at Neiman Marcus.  Neiman Marcus is going through a digital transformation and insights from our data are driving the transformation of Neiman Marcus Group into a Luxury Customer Platform and providing the best customer experience across all of our brands.

We are looking for a Data Architect with deep experience and the ability to be hands-on to transform how NMG leverages the massive amount of internal and external data and to ensure structured & unstructured data can be leveraged securely across multiple platforms. You will be  working with business users, data product owners, platform, enterprise architecture, data management, and data engineering teams to ensure the data platforms are built with high performance, availability, and maintainability standards using current and emerging cloud data technologies. You will establish & evangelize best-in-class data design patterns that will drive flexible, scalable, and efficient data models to maximize value & competitive advantage from our data assets at Neiman Marcus Group that align with NMG’s strategy.

What You’ll Be Doing (Responsibilities)

  • Provide thought leadership to the business and technology organization to influence improved agility and deeper understanding of the NMG data platform capabilities
  • Develop a deep understanding of the business domain and enterprise technology inventory to craft a solution roadmap that achieves business enablement, maximizes reuse, and protects the ecosystem 
  • Design scalable strategies and architecture to support both batch and real-time NMG data products & platforms using best-in-class big data technologies (i.e.  AWS, EMR, Spark, Snowflake) for ever changing digital landscape 
  • Extensive hands on experience in leading large-scale full-cycle enterprise data warehousing (EDW) projects.
  • Make recommendations toward a practical technical roadmap for an enterprise-wide BI reporting and analytics platform, including ML and AI capabilities.
  • Create simple, flexible, and scalable data models and modelling standards to enable NMG data marketplace and data consumption patterns 
  • Drive platform automation to promote continuous integration/continuous delivery, test-driven development, and streamlined production deployment frameworks 
  • Drive data solution designs to consensus and approval as a leader within NMG cross-functional technology team 
  • Lead, collaborate, and communicate architectural vision to enterprise architecture, development, and executive teams 
  • Drive collaborative reviews of design, code, data, features implementation performed by data engineers to drive engineering excellence around total cost of ownership, data quality & process maintainability 
  • Research and evaluate the best-of-breed technologies to inform architecture decisions, build-vs-buy and cost/benefit analysis 
  • Collaborate to design, implement, & assess solutions & procedures to be compliant with data governance policies and standards 
  • Proactively engage with team-members and cross-functional teams to identify improvement opportunities 
  • Play a key role in managing work output/quality of contingent workers and vendor resources 
  • Conduct regular POCs of the latest emerging technologies in this space, particularly in the areas of user self service, data consumption, insight generation and delivery.
  • Architect and implement with other teams the full deployment, data capacity planning and security for all production client deployments.
  • Collaborate and support internal development needs for the product development of our platform as well as be a part of the development

The Skills You Bring (Qualifications)

  • BS/MS (or equivalent experience) in CS/Data Engineering or related fields
  • 10+ years experience with large-scale, distributed data pipelines, as well as data management, modeling, and storage
  • Experience building large scale data processing and analytical systems
  • Proven understanding of data governance, data quality, reusable frameworks and decision support systems design principles
  • Deep understanding of modern data engineering practices including scalability, distributed computing, AWS cloud infrastructure, containerization, etc.
  • Demonstrated experience in architecting and implementing Data Warehouse, preferably using Snowflake
  • Proven ability to inspire confidence, create executive presentations and guide strategic discussions with senior management.
  • Ability to understand and adapt to changing business priorities and technology advancements
  • Ability to operate in a multifaceted and fast-paced environment, building strategy while executing tactics, including hands-on contributions
  • Proven track record of collaboration with engineering leaders and business partners to drive impact
  • In-depth, hands-on experience using structured and unstructured data as well as key data technologies, including AWS, Snowflake, EMR, AirFlow, Hive, Kinesis, Spark, etc. 
  • Background in all aspects of software engineering with strong skills in parallel data processing, data flows, REST APIs, JSON, XML, and micro service architecture
  • Experience working in a scrum/agile environment and associated tools (Jira)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
